BIOMIXER® Unit Impact at the Ash Creek WWTP
Abstract
The city of Azle, TX operates an oxidation ditch for their wastewater treatment. The effluent discharge parameters for the Ash Creek WWTP were meeting limits but the plant had high sludge volume indexes (SVI's). It was thought the inadequate mixing and low dissolved oxygen (DO) levels were contributing to the poor sludge settling. A BIOMIXER® unit was installed in the oxidation ditch for increased DO, better mixing, and improved redundancy for their brush aerators. New tubular blades with fine pore membranes were installed, which improved the oxygen transfer with the added benefit of improved nitrification.
