The Benefits of Component Object-Based Supervisory System Application Development versus Traditional HMI Development in Water Systems Operations Management
Abstract
There are several fundamental differences between SCADA and supervisory HMI (human machine interface) products that are based on component-object application development and traditional tag-based development. This paper differentiates the two methodologies and illustrates how developing SCADA and supervisory HMI products with component objects can result in an 80% cost reduction over developing them using a traditional tag-based approach. Object based application development is of particular interest for the development of SCADA applications in water and wastewater operations, given the nature of these systems.
