Measuring Priority Pollutants and Proposing Emission Control Strategies in Two European Case Cities
Abstract
Priority pollutants emission reductions are of great interest as environmental quality standards were adopted by the European parliament and the European Union council. The ScorePP project (Source Control Options for Reducing Emissions of Priority Pollutants) intends to propose emission control strategies to be applied in urban areas to reduce priority pollutants releases in water. In this study, the priority pollutants listed in the European Water Framework Directive were monitored in wastewater treatment plants in two European cities with the aim of survey the occurrence and concentrations of the pollutants in the cities. Furthermore, substance flow analysis was performed for Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP ) in the two case cities and relevant emission control strategies were proposed for each city according to the main emitting activities.
