Collection System Flow Monitoring Technology Evaluation at the East Bay Municipal Utility District
Abstract
The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) conducted a technology evaluation at 31 site locations in its wastewater collection system to evaluate flow monitors for potential application at long-term flow monitoring sites. This study also included side-by-side comparisons of available technology types, including Continuous-wave Doppler, Pulse-Doppler, Radar, Transit-Time and Custom Compound Weir, at select locations across a representative range of pipe diameters and hydraulic conditions. Flow monitors were evaluated for accuracy, repeatability, uptime, userfriendliness, operation and maintenance (O&M) requirements, flexibility, applicability and cost.
