Abstract
The Klorfasil safe water program is a not-for-profit household water treatment intervention for developing countries. It is similar to the Safe Water System promoted by the Centers for Disease Control in that it consists of three parts: 1) behavioral change techniques (i.e., social marketing) combined with, 2) safe water storage in the home in closed plastic containers fitted with a tap to prevent contamination of treated water, and 3) treatment of water in the home by the addition of a suitable disinfectant. Unlike the CDC model, which is based on the use of locally produced dilute liquid sodium hypochlorite solution, the Klorfasil program uses concentrated granulated sodium dichloroisocyanurate disinfectant.
