Odowatch Odor and H2S Monitoring System: Performance, Benefits, and Lessons at the Roger Road Wastewater Reclamation Facility in Tucson Arizona
Abstract
Installed in January 2009, the Odowatch Enose Odor and H2S Continuous Monitoring System at the Roger Road Wastewater Reclamation Facility in Tucson Arizona is a unique system. The Odowatch system is capable of realtime area-wide compliance monitoring for numeric hydrogen sulfide concentration and duration limits as well as narrative odor concentrations for nuisance threshold. An overview of this Enose and emission dispersion monitoring system is described. H2S and odor monitoring results are presented for some of the more remarkable emissions events captured during the first several months of monitoring. Monitoring performance evaluation results for the Odowatch system presented.Considerations are discussed for locating enoses relative to emission sources, neighboring receptors, site meteorology in terms of dynamic emission source identification, discrimination, and plume prediction performance. System benefits are discussed from the perspective of the process improvements, operator process awareness, equipment problem identification, and facility-wide odor control system design.
