Crosstown 2 Rehabilitation Project Balancing Utility Needs with Community Impacts
Abstract
The Crosstown Interceptor Rehabilitation Project No. 2 consisted of installation of cured-inplace-pipe (CIPP) in approximately 3 miles of the interceptor, varying from 36- to 60-inches in diameter, which conveys flows from residential, commercial, and major Las Vegas Boulevard casinos. The project alignment extends from east of Las Vegas Boulevard to both the west and east sides of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) campus. Project challenges that necessitated balancing utility needs and community impacts included the following: construction of a temporary bypass system, work on UNLV property and in Las Vegas resort corridor, private property coordination, low-bid contractor selection, and tight project schedule. This paper discusses how the project team addressed these project challenges. The design approach to these challenges included proactive coordination and notification of all affected properties and the development of a defined bypass corridor.
