Improved Data Entry and Its Impact on the National Pretreatment Program
Abstract
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with assistance from Tetra Tech, Inc., is developing a guidance detailing proper data entry procedures for pretreatment data in the Water Permits Compliance System (PCS) and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Integrated Compliance Information System (ICIS). EPA anticipates this guidance to be the template for data management improvements for the remaining NPDES programs. The guidance document is anticipated for release in the summer of 2011 and should therefore be available for distribution prior to the 2011 WEFTEC conference. This paper will discuss the problems encountered during the use of the existing data that led to the development of this document, the final document itself, and its applicability.
