WEF’s Survey of Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Information Needs
Abstract
The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is currently implementing a survey of the information and technical assistance needs of municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) stormwater programs in the United States. Stormwater programs are still relatively young in the United States and they are heterogeneous - representing a variety of community sizes with different characteristics. Very little comprehensive national information currently exists about the key challenges that MS4s face in implementing their stormwater programs. WEF is filling this information gap with this survey; WEF’s Stormwater Institute plans to use results from the survey to help formulate WEF’s research agenda to help MS4 stormwater programs address their information needs and assistance gaps. The survey also provides an opportunity for stormwater to be included as a sector for the first time in the American Society of Civil Engineers Infrastructure Report Card© Program. The survey is currently being implemented and results will be available in late summer 2018.
