Should I Use My Digester Gas? Should I Co-Digest?
Abstract
A brief summary of five example projects are presented and discussed where it was determined that combined heat and power (CHP) was either not cost-effective or not as cost-effective as anticipated, where existing CHP systems have issues such that they may not be cost-effective to retain or upgrade in the future, and where the introduction of off-site wastes into the digestion was determined to not be cost-effective. The plant sizes range from less than 2 mgd to greater than 50 mgd. Data and cost-effectiveness information is provided. The impact of changing types, quality, availability, and competition for high quality co-digestates is also discussed.
