Quantifying the GHG-Emission Reductions from DC Water’s Digestion/Cambi/CHP Upgrades
Abstract
In anticipation of efficiency-enhancements and GHG-reductions associated with projects being brought online between 2009 and 2015, Brown and Caldwell (BC) and DC Water developed the first, utility-wide, Greenhouse-Gas (GHG) emissions inventories for 2007 and 2008. The team then developed a data-mining program that nearly automatically populated each month’s GHG emissions from operations and billing data through the end of 2014 when Cambi/Digestion/Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Upgrades were brought online at the Blue Plains Advanced Water Resource Recovery Facility (BP-AWRRF). In the past year, revisions are being made to the inventory template and data mining to account for digestion-related and other emissions sources. This paper compares the actual 2014 (before-upgrades) and 2016 (post-upgrades) GHG emissions inventories.
