How to Deliver Progressive Projects in a Traditional, Fixed-Price, Design-Build State
Abstract
For the past ten years, the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) has used the Design-Build project delivery method to complete some of our most challenging and fast-paced projects. Through the use of this delivery method we have worked collaboratively with both designers and builders to achieve successful outcomes that have benefitted the ratepayers of the region. This collaborative process has been used on a variety of projects from small pipeline projects to large high-profile administrative spaces. This paper highlights some of the challenges and lasting positive outcomes that are the hallmark of projects that use trust and a team centered culture as foundations for success.
