Water Reuse as a National Policy

Abstract

Israel has to take steps to increase its water supply as a result of constant growth in demand and in light of limited natural water resources. One of the most effective ways of doing so is by using recycled water agricultural irrigation. Due to the situation the government encourages an exchange of fresh water allocations with enlarged recycled water allocations. It is done by providing grants which are as high as 60% of the construction cost of recycled water distribution systems (RWDS) which are initiated by the private sector and setting a low tariff for recycled water in the RWDS of Mekorot (the National Water Company).
