Reuse of Coal Seam Gas Brackish Water in Australia.
Abstract
In Australia the regulatory approach for reuse is based on the application of a Beneficial Use Platform that covers a broad range of activities and requires approval by several State and Federal agencies. Complexity is increased with the history of extreme water cycles ranging from severe drought to intense flooding. The project in this paper is known as the Queensland Curtis Liquefied Natural Gas (QCLNG) operation, uses high recovery reverse osmosis with brine concentrators to achieve a target 97 percent beneficial reuse recovery from the brackish water produced when coal seam gas is extracted. Results from this project are highlighted to present the approach for beneficial use, treatment and operations.
