Impact of Polymer Dosing on Thermal Hydrolysis Return Liquor
Abstract
Return liquor from thermal hydrolysis process can significantly impact the dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) and UV absorbance of the effluent when recycled to the wastewater treatment plant. This study aims at understanding the impact of polymer dose in the post-digestion dewatering stage, on DON and UV absorbance in the return liquor. Results indicate that increase in polymer dose can significantly reduce DON and UV quenching compounds in the return liquor, including very small sized fraction (<1k Da), which may be difficult to remove through other processes.
