Wastewater Treatment Plant Evaluation Toolkit
Abstract
A major beverage company with approximately 900 facilities worldwide had a need for an evaluation tool that would allow their bottlers to assess the wastewater treatment plants at these facilities to determine their ability to accommodate expansion or increases in production, along with a subsequent increase in wastewater flows and loadings. To accomplish this evaluation, a series of three (3) spreadsheet-based, non-kinetic models were developed for use with conventional activated sludge, sequencing batch reactor, and membrane bioreactor type wastewater treatment plants used by the bottlers. These models provide the ability to perform a general assessment of the existing wastewater treatment plants on a unit process by unit process basis, yielding a set of evaluation results for the subject treatment plant. These results can then be used by the bottlers to determine if the existing treatment plant is adequate for their proposed increase in production.
