Description: Novel BioElectro™ Process for Biosolids Sterilization
Novel BioElectro™ Process for Biosolids Sterilization
Abstract
This paper describes a new process of biosolids treatment, BioElectro™, which is able to sterilize biosolids in less than two hours. The process was proven on anaerobically digested biosolids at lab scale, where DC electric field coupled with enhancement agents inactivated Clostridium perfringens spores reaching log 9 reduction. It was concluded that presence of unionized ammonia molecule along with the elevated temperature generated due to exothermic reaction within the system may sterilize biosolids. The process is ready to be used in batch and continuous flow systems.
