GLOBAL APPROACH TO WET WEATHER ISSUES : KEY STEPS TO AN IMPROVED WATER QUALITY
Abstract
Wet Weather issues have evolved over the last generation. From an environmental side issue twenty years ago, they have gained the forefront of environmental concerns. This paper will present the key steps to achieve a global approach to Wet Weather issues. Each of the best management practices available have been ranked and reduced to critical steps that can be implemented sequentially in order to achieve an optimized global approach to wet weather issues. These steps are :Source control of stormwater flowrates;Retention capacity upstream in the sewer system;Optimal overflow weir capacity;Increased end-of-pipe capacity of the WWTP.For each of these key steps, a succinct explanation of the method will be given followed by practical examples of application.
