EVALUATION OF THE TRANSFER METHOD FOR ESTIMATING RIVER FLOWS
Abstract
Several methods exist for estimating river flows at ungaged sites, including regional regression equations and hydrologic modeling. The transfer method is a simple method of using gage data from one site to estimate flows at an ungaged site, based on the proportionality of contributing drainage areas. This paper evaluates the ability of the transfer method to estimate flow at gaged sites, thereby allowing comparison of the estimated flows to actual flows.
