ON-LINE ANALYZER APPLICATIONS FOR BNR PROCESS CONTROL
Abstract
A new technology has been developed that bypasses laboratory testing to continuously and accurately monitor ammonia and nitrates directly in wastewater or activated sludge. With rising power costs and more stringent NPDES permit requirements, faster and proper control of parameters is vital. Manufacturers have made great advances in sensors and analyzer technologies. Some Analyzers are designed to detect multiple chemical parameters in samples from several sample points. An overview of sensors and techniques for monitoring of DO and nitrogen in TN removal processes is presented. Also, the reliability of the instruments and the applicability of the information they provide in automatic control systems with regards to operational cost savings and technical feasibility are discussed.
