REDUCING DISPOSAL COSTS THROUGH ADVANCED ELECTRO-DEWATERING
Abstract
The City of Victoriaville (Quebec, Canada) has been using an innovative dewatering process using the principle of electro-osmosis since March 2005. The electro-dewatering machine is fed with dewatered sludge cake at an average16% TS concentration. Solids concentration at the outlet is in an average of 36% TS, with a volume reduction of 57%. Pathogen destruction has been documented. Effect of Initial Solids Concentration is also presented, suggesting polymer usage savings. The two-years operation at the Victoriaville WWTP has led to several design improvements and preliminary final dryness is up to 40% TS. The upgraded unit has been commercially launched during WEFTEC-06. The City has recently purchased additional Electrodewatering re-designed units to handle its total biosolids production.
