DEMONSTRATING THE BENEFITS OF 3D BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING FOR THE CITY OF NORTH LAS VEGAS NEVADA WATER RECLAMATION FACILITY
Abstract
This paper will describe the benefits from utilizing the 3-dimensional (3D) Building Information Modeling (3D-BIM) for the design of the City of North Las Vegas Water Reclamation Facility. Traditional detailed design produces two-dimensional (2D) drawings, requiring reviewers to have strong visualization skills in order to interpret plans, sections, and associated information. Furthermore, because early review drawings (25%, 50%) typically lack detail, review comments tend to be minimal until the drawings exceed 75% completion, by which time changes become costly and time-consuming.Many current and emerging treatment technologies demand a better approach. New technologies such as membrane bioreactors (MBRs) are much more compact than conventional plants, increasing the design complexity and the potential for design interferences.“BIM 3D” is the use of an integrated, multidisciplinary 3D model that is one of the components of BIM. BIM 3D is the component of BIM which provides the 3D modeling benefits – integrated multidiscipline design, visualization, interference management, and drawing production. BIM 3D—is a major step forward compared to early 3D technology.
