Pump Station Refurbishment Designed for Compatibility with Adjacent Condominium, Hotel and Marine Terminal Development Projects in Portland, Maine
Abstract
The Portland Water District owns and operates the regional wastewater interceptor and treatment system serving the Portland, Maine, metropolitan area. Two of its largest pump stations - India Street and Northeast – have been in service for nearly 30 years and are in need of major refurbishment. The refurbishment of the India Street PS was also driven by the construction of adjacent luxury condominium, hotel and retail complexes plus the construction of the nearby Ocean Gateway development, a state-of-the-art cruise ship and international ferry terminal owned by the City of Portland. As part of the design, extensive analyses, including both mathematical and physical modeling, took place for the design of the odor control system and the re-design of the wetwells.
