Abstract

An Environmental Management System (EMS) is capable of bringing focus and attention to critical issues faced by all utilities and it allows us to identify more clearly what possible solutions are available in dealing with these critical issues. Toho Water Authority (TWA) is currently in the process of implementing an EMS within their Treatment Operations Department. As a utility that is presently going through the process of getting ISO 14001:2004 certified, we bring a fresh perspective to the discussion. We will discuss the pitfalls and triumphs we have experienced in addition to advice for other utilities that will follow in our steps.
