Abstract
The Densadeg technology is a compact, external re-circulating, high-rate solids contact process incorporating chemical coagulation, flocculation, settling, and solids thickening, designed to handle large variations in raw water composition and flow rates. The Densadeg produces a dense sludge that settles rapidly, allowing it to operate at high loading rates and ultimately reduce the volume of waste sludge produced, compared to conventional clarifiers. Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) is the technology used for removing sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the exhaust flue gases in coal or oil burning power plants. For a typical coal-fired power station, FGD will remove 95 percent or more of the SO2 in the flue gases. The Dominion Virginia Power Plant in Chesterfield, Virginia was required to design, build and operate a new FGD system that incorporates a Densadeg Clarifier System. This paper will highlight the design, operation and performance testing of the FGD Densadeg Clarifier System.
