Two Stage MBBR for the Treatment of High TDS Produced Water
Abstract
The Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) has been used in many industries through out the world, and has shown its capability to treat wastewater under varying and extreme conditions. Following on from this the applicability of the AnoxKaldnes MBBR to remove BOD from Produced Water was examined. Produced water is the largest waste stream in oil and gas industries and contains refractory carbon compounds, Oils and greases and typically has a very high TDS concentration. Following the removal of free oil, the performance of a two stage MBBR to remove BOD was assessed as a possible pretreatment to reverse osmosis.
