Effect of Ionic Strength on Ion Selective Electrodes in the Activated Sludge Process
Abstract
Online ion selective electrodes (ISE) have found a place in wastewater treatment plants, primarily for the measurement of ammonia. Whether used only for data logging or as an input into control systems, it is important for operators to understand the properties of these sensors. The ionic strength of the sample solution can affect the measurements of an ISE probe. This paper demonstrates these effects and suggests a method for mitigating them.
