Development of A Web-Based Interactive Database for Water and Wastewater Pipeline Renewal Engineering Technologies and Management Practices

System Renewal includes various repair, rehabilitation, and replacement technologies and products that restore pipeline systems to the expected levels of service within the established budget plan. The key is to determine which renewal technology is best suited for the situation at hand, taking into account both past experiences, technological innovations, and project specific requirements. The research team at Virginia Tech is currently working on the development of a web-based interactive national database which provides a “one-stop-shop” for technology information, product profiles, case studies, and other valuable information that can help identify the most appropriate technology to achieve project goals in an efficient and cost effective manner. Currently, utilities are faced with difficulties in information sharing, and as a result, the same mistakes are repeated in utilities throughout the nation. The national database will address these difficulties by bringing data and information from all the stakeholders into one database.
