Leveraging IIoT and AI to Automate and Optimize Food Processing Plant DAF Operations
Abstract
This paper explores the development of an automated Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) control platform through the application of reliable online sensors and proprietary control algorithms based on Artificial Intelligence and remote monitoring that provide:Improved and consistent DAF performance (TSS, BOD and COD removal)Lower treatment chemical costsReduced trade waste chargesImproved effluent wastewater compliance rates and reduced regulatory finesReduced operator involvement and labor costsThe ability for effluent water to be further processed downstream to improve recyclability of waterData from three well controlled field trials in the Australian food processing industry has confirmed that significant performance improvements can be achieved while reducing the overall Total Cost of Operation (TCO) and minimizing the need for continuous operator oversight.
