Making Informed Decisions: Using GIS with InfoMaster to form an Underground Asset Management Plan
Abstract
This manuscript will summarize the positive change in Underground Asset Management planning of the collection system used by Citizens Energy Group by creating an Asset Management plan of the entire system using GIS with InfoMaster. By creating our Asset Management plan completely within the GIS environment, we have been given the ability to assess the condition of our system piping holistically. Prior assessments done in spreadsheets were limited in their scope. Now, we can utilize the complete history of full system data across GIS, work order management, CCTV, and collection system modeling results in less time using fewer resources. The manuscript will highlight Citizens’ lessons learned in creating an Asset Management plan using GIS with InfoMaster. The lessons include:Selection, weighting, and distribution of risk criteria (likelihood and consequence of failure); How we overcame obstacles faced when relating different data sets in GIS;How to interpret the most complete Asset Management plan output we have ever had.
