Peracetic Acid Quenching with Sodium Bisulfite
Abstract
The Metro wastewater Reclamation District (Metro District) is in the process of conducting a full-scale peracetic acid (PAA) disinfection demonstration at Robert w. Hite Treatment Facility (RwHTF) as an interim disinfection system while it conducts an evaluation of its longer-term disinfection options. Prior to initiation of the demonstration, Metro District investigated the quenching requirement and behavior of sodium bisulfite (SBS) to achieve target residual concentrations of PAA. A series of jar tests were used to inform SBS dosing quantity and strategy.
