Lisa is a Senior Project Manager at Lockwood, Andrews and Newnam, Inc. With a master’s in urban planning, a BS in civil engineering, Lisa is a Plangineer bridging the gap between the planning and engineering worlds for more resilient infrastructure. Lisa’s background includes public service, municipal consulting, transportation research, and off-shore measurement-while-drilling. She has experience with strategic and long-range infrastructure planning, regional water resources, disaster response, operational water and wastewater support, and drinking water surface water purification facility management and operations. Lisa has served as an alternate for State of Texas regional planning and environmental groups and is a certified planner, and licensed professional engineer in Texas. Lisa is excited OneWater and working through water rights and water use conflicts assisting the evolution and growth of conservation and responsibility for our planet's water and communities.

Hydraulic Modeling of a Large Collection System: Challenges Faced Regarding Design Storm and Unexpected Conditions

Abstract

The Sanitary Sewer Overflow Initiative (SSOI) began to address overflows or unauthorized discharges of untreated or partially treated wastewater from the City's sanitary sewer collection system. In conjunction with regular maintenance and repair, and a recent manhole inventory the City collected updated system flow data and initiated the hydraulic model build of the sanitary sewer collection system. The flow monitoring and hydraulic model were completed for half of the City in Phase 2. Splitting the project into phases minimized data collection delays and allowed for a targeted analysis of the sanitary sewer collection system. The hydraulic model was built using operational data and record drawings provided by the City and calibrated with survey and flow data obtained in the field. The project team is building on the experience gained during Phase 2 and applying solutions in Phase 3 to refine the hydraulic model and improve calibration.

Flow monitoring and hydraulic modeling were completed for half of the City in Phase 2. Challenges from the first modeling phase will be addressed as the second half of the system is modeled and calibrated.
